You need this number to pay your taxes, but also to apply for additional income such as \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/eu-people.com\/en\/nl\/all-you-need-to-know-about-zorgtoeslag\/\">Healthcare allowance<\/a>\u201cChild benefit, housing benefit and extraterritorial tax credits. Get your BSN by registering at a municipal office in the Netherlands. It is completely free!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n        <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n<section class=\"editor primary margin-none\">\n        <div class=\"editor-wrap boxed\">\n            <div class=\"autop content\"><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A bicycle<\/h3>\n<p>This might sound funny, but owning a bike opens up so many possibilities in the Netherlands! Moreover, it truly adds something to your Dutch experience. With 32,000 kilometers of bike paths, the Netherlands can easily call itself the best cycling country in the world. Cycle in complete safety on bike paths from virtually anywhere to virtually anywhere else. When the weather is nice, you grab an ANWB cycling map and plan a route through nature. And in daily life, owning a bike gives you a lot of freedom to run errands, visit friends, do grocery shopping, without having to worry about fuel. You can travel with your bike on the train and most buses to visit other cities or nature reserves.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n        <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n<section class=\"editor white margin-none\">\n        <div class=\"editor-wrap boxed\">\n            <div class=\"autop content\"><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A solid contract<\/h3>\n<p>When you move to the Netherlands for the first time, the number of available jobs can be overwhelmingly huge. Of course, some jobs fit your experience or personality better than others, but usually the salary is the most tempting thing to pay attention to. While money in the bank is certainly something to strive for, you must not forget to check your contract carefully! Figure out what is or isn't included? Do you get housing or do you have to pay extra? What about\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/eu-people.com\/en\/nl\/being-a-driver-with-eu-people\/\">commute to work<\/a>? Insurance? Are vacation days included in the salary or do you accrue them over the course of the year? Also keep in mind what your employment conditions will be and whether the job can be extended for the duration you want to stay.
