O seu nome deve-se ao facto de o terreno ser, na sua maior parte, plano e situar-se pr\u00f3ximo do n\u00edvel do mar, o que ainda hoje se mant\u00e9m. A palavra holandesa \u201cNederland\u201d significa, literalmente, \u201cterra baixa\u201d. Tendo isso em conta, \u00abNederland\u00bb \u00e9 o \u00fanico nome correto quando se refere ao pa\u00eds como um todo.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n

E quanto aos Pa\u00edses Baixos?<\/h3>\n

A Holanda \u00e9 composta por 12 prov\u00edncias, entre as quais a Holanda do Norte e a Holanda do Sul. Nestas duas prov\u00edncias situam-se as famosas cidades de Amesterd\u00e3o, Roterd\u00e3o e muitas outras. Em conjunto, a Holanda do Norte e a Holanda do Sul s\u00e3o simplesmente designadas por \u201cHolanda\u201d. Portanto, quando se utiliza \u201cHolanda\u201d, est\u00e1-se a referir apenas a uma pequena parte do pa\u00eds.
