If you’ve done your research about working in Holland, you may have come across the term “Zorgtoeslag”. This term may sound intimidating, but it can be a financial benefit for you!
It all starts with health insurance
As you may know, all inhabitants of The Netherlands are required to have health insurance. It is a legal requirement, to protect Dutch citizens in case of health problems. Health care insurance covers doctor’s visits, most medications, hospitalization under various circumstances, and other services depending on the insurance company and type of coverage.
What is Zorgtoeslag?
Even though health insurance is mandatory, not everyone has the same income to support this expense. That’s why the Dutch government introduced Zorgtoeslag. It is a type of health care allowance, which helps people with low income to pay for their health insurance. The amount you receive depends on your income, with a maximum of €111 per month.
Who can get Zorgtoeslag?
Zorgtoeslag is available for everyone who is obligated by Dutch law to have health insurance. This includes employees from abroad! As long as your income is not higher than €31.998 per year, you can request Zorgtoeslag.
