Taking a technical job in Eindhoven doesn’t just mean a new job – it means settling into a new city too. Here’s what daily life actually looks like.
The city itself is compact, modern and genuinely international – you’ll find colleagues and neighbours from all over the world, especially around the tech and manufacturing sector. It’s also noticeably more affordable to live in than Amsterdam, while still offering a full city’s worth of shops, restaurants and things to do.
Getting around is easy, and mostly by bike. Like the rest of the Netherlands, Eindhoven is built for cycling, with dedicated bike lanes connecting neighbourhoods and workplaces. Public transport fills the gaps for longer trips. If you work with EU-People and use our housing, you also get free transport to and from work in one of our company cars or vans – and if you’re comfortable driving, you can earn roughly EUR 30-40 extra per week by driving yourself and your colleagues.
Housing is arranged, not something you have to figure out alone. The Netherlands has a well-known housing shortage, which can be a real obstacle if you’re arriving from abroad. EU-People offers SNF-certified housing close to your workplace – real houses, not overcrowded dorms, with a maximum of two people per bedroom – for around EUR 90 a week after the tax discount most international workers qualify for.
Daily life runs fine on English. You don’t need to speak Dutch to live and work here comfortably. Most workplaces function well with basic English (B1 level), and you’ll be working alongside colleagues from many different backgrounds. For the practical side of settling in – a BSN, mandatory health insurance, tax benefits like the healthcare allowance – EU-People helps you arrange all of it, and our job coaches stay reachable even outside office hours if something urgent comes up.
If your job is just outside Eindhoven itself – in Nuenen, Veldhoven, Best or Son en Breugel, for example – you’re still looking at a short bike ride or drive, not a real commute. All of these towns sit within easy reach of the city and of each other.
