Certificates explained: SNF, SNA, and NBBU

Stamp of approval

You may have seen the certificates we mention on our website: SNF, SNA, and NBBU. In this blog, we explain what each certificate is for and why it matters that we have them.

SNF certificate

SNF stands for Stichting Normering Flexwonen, which translates to Foundation for the Standardization of Flex-living. The SNF was founded in 2012 after an agreement was signed to enforce proper standards for temporary living space for labor migrants in The Netherlands. During yearly check-ups, SNF makes sure that their registered members comply with important housing standards. For example, all residents must have a bed with mattress of at least 80*200 and a chair per person. There must also be at least 1 toilet and 1 shower per 8 occupants. At EU-People, we meet the SNF standards for many years now. We even strive to do better than what’s expected from us. If you’d like to know more, have a look at the SNF housing standards (in English) and our SNF certificate.

SNA seal of approval

SNA stands for Stichting Normering Arbeid, which translates to Foundation for the Standardization of Labor. SNA originated in 2005 when the Dutch government requested a good and transparent system to promote self-regulation amongst job agencies. This came as an alternative to requiring a permit to operate. SNA does (sometimes multiple) yearly check-ups to determine if a job agency is operating properly. SNA enforces proper payment of minimum wage, pensions, travel allowance, vacation money, and other allowances. SNA also checks if all salary deductions, such as housing costs, are in fact legal. Lastly, SNA makes sure that companies have the necessary documents to provide work to their employees. By having the SNA seal of approval, our clients know that they can safely cooperate with us and our temporary workers. It reduces their risks of hiring temporary workers. If you’d like to know more, check out the SNA folder (only available in Dutch) and our SNA seal of approval.

NBBU certificate

NBBU stands for Nederlandse Bond van Bemiddelings- en Uitzendondernemingen, which translates to Dutch Association of Mediation- and Temporary Employment Agencies. The NBBU provides a flexible CAO, which is fine-tuned for temporary workers. When working with us at EU-People, the NBBU CAO will ensure that your interests are looked after. For more information, have a look at the NBBU CAO (in English) and our NBBU certificate.

By applying for (and earning) SNF, SNA, and NBBU certificates, we make it easier for you to recognize us as a legitimate, honest, and transparent job agency. Instead of having to do the research yourself, you can trust the frequent checkups of these independent companies. That makes these certifications a great thing to look out for when choosing your next job agency!
